Welcome to Biting-Edge, a blog shared by authors and vampire experts, Mario Acevedo and Jeanne Stein. We’ll cover urban fantasy, vampires, pop culture, and all things Joss Whedon. Unlike other fantasy blogs, we don’t insist on body cavity searches (unless you ask politely). Snarkiness is most welcome...though we won't promise not to bite back!
What a way to start the day...
Well, I just lost my complete blog. Vanished into the either. I've been saving, too, so I don't know WTF happened. I just hope this isn't indicative of what the rest of my day is going to be like.
Anyway, the original title for this post was going to be An Exciting Week in the Life of a Writer. But I realized that sounded like I was being critical and getting and staying published are two of the best things that have ever happened to me.
But there are weeks, like the ten days ahead of me, when I have to do less writing and more of the promo stuff. I'm not good at it. My stomach gets tied up in knots.
Here's what I have in store:
Denver is hosting its first ever Comic Con June 15 - 17 at the Convention Center downtown. They've lined up a pretty impressive list of guests including my favorite, James Marsters. I have a small part to play, too. Here is my schedule:
FRIDAY 7 PM
Local Author
Spotlight Hyatt Room 3
SAT 11 AM
New Horror and Urban Fantasy Lit C104
SAT 1 PM
Strong Woman Writers and
Characters in SF and Urban Fantasy -
Capitol 2
SAT 4 PM Hyatt Room 2
Paranormal Outer Limits
Since I haven't seen a program yet with panel descriptions, I can only guess from the titles what we'll be talking about. Friday night I think I'll be reading from Haunted, the next AS book out on August 28.
San Diego - Mon - Thurs
Then it's off to San Diego for four days to meet with my collaborator, Samantha Sommersby, on our new series. We plan to polish off the first book (which I assume will be out sometime early next year) and plot out the second. It will be four days of work. Maybe a little play. But mostly work.
When I get back, it's time for another Denver Con, Rom Con. Here's my schedule for that one:
Paranormal Slayers at 2:40 on Friday
Speed Date at 11:20 on Saturday
Paranormal Chat 1:30 on Saturday
Intimate Chat at 2:40 on Saturday
Book signing Saturday night at 8:00 p.m.
Full and busy weekend.
In between all this, I'm finishing off the ninth Anna Strong book, judging entries for the Colorado Gold Writing Conference and planning the book signing schedule for Haunted.
I have the first lined up, btw....mark your calendars...August 28, TC Highlands Ranch. First day you can get the book in your hot little hands.
I do want to return to the normal blog things I use to talk about, though. Hopefully, by the middle of July I can concentrate more on media stuff and less on what's going on with me. Which I realize isn't nearly as interesting as a sexy picture of James Marsters.

Done hexing...for now!
Mario here,
Sayonara Mucho Mojo and RomCon2011. It was nice. It was real. And it's over.
The loooooong weekend started with Thursday's
Mucho Mojo hijinks at MadWines, courtesy of Denver Public Library's
Fresh City Life program. Jeanne, Kimberly Frost, and Nicole Peeler laid us out with their assorted charms and pervy erotic readings. We cooled off afterwords at the Mercury Cafe where Kimberly and Nicole posed under the famous flying tiger.
Olivia Cunning shows off her fabulous RomCon Readers Crown trophies (major jealousy here at Biting-Edge corporate headquarters. We want one!)
The dealers room included jewelry sales that support the
Colorado Association of Libraries benefit for Bulgarian libraries. Major cool move.

Besides panels and schmoozing, we all had plenty of real-world homework (that unfortunately interfered with our drinking). Jeanne and Kimberly practically shoot sparks out their ears as they hack at deadlines.
Once the con fun and games were over, we hoofed it to the Broadway Book Mall for a signing that included Lizzie T. Leaf (center) and to her left, Melissa Mayhue (who was so proud of her sparkly covers!)

To cap off the fun and gird ourselves for the return to planet Earth, we trekked to the
Interstate Kitchen & Bar, where Nicole shared her appreciation of good head.

RT Bound
It's Wednesday afternoon and I want to get this off before
I'm off to RT Booklovers Convention in Los Angeles tomorrow. Since that's the home of Wolfram & Hart, I'll be on my best behavior.
Did any of you get caught in an April Fools joke? This one really had me going for a while:

From
Fearnet.comGiven the non-stop deluge of attention she's received in the past several years, the obsessive fans, and the privacy-invading paparazzi, it was natural to assume that Kristen Stewart would be done with the vampire genre altogether once shooting on The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 had wrapped. But apparently Stewart's still up for more fun and hijinks with the undead if the script (or paycheck) is good enough. Because the mumbly twenty-one-year-old has just signed a three-picture contract to star as the title heroine in Fox's Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot movie series...
Looks like Anna Kendrick is up for the role of Buffy's best pal and right-hand witch Willow, Jackson Rathbone could essay everyman Xander, Ashley Greene may portray the vain Cordelia, Taylor Lautner will likely get hairy once more as teen wolf Oz, Michael Sheen is very close to signing on as Buffy's "Watcher" Giles, and Dakota Fanning's in the running to play Buffy's kid sister Dawn. Meanwhile several pundits have linked Robert Pattinson to the role of Angel. (We've reached out to the actor's publicist, but are still awaiting reply.) One thing that's certain is the film's writer-director team – none other than Stephenie Meyer (making her screenwriting debut) and Catherine Hardwicke, fresh off her instant masterpiece of adolescent angst Red Riding Hood.
Yikes! What a nightmare!!!
Now, this may be another joke, and I have a feeling I've heard about this before, but this was from
CNews World Watch
The FBI has asked for help to decipher a note found in the pocket of Ricky McCormick, discovered slain in a St. Louis field 12 years ago.
Investigators have tried to decode the two-page note since the body of 41-year-old McCormick was found. But it's still not known what it says, and experts say it could help solve the case.
So, put on your thinking caps and give it a go.

RomCon aftermath, UFOs, and Nicole's flaming red pompadour
Mario here:

The big news is the nuttiness that spilled over from RomCon 2010, the first ever Rocky Mountain Romance Convention.
The League of Reluctant Adults was well represented, to include our very own Jeanne.
The action swept into LoDo when Nicole Peeler and her writer pals had dinner at 1515 Market. And who else but Nicole would try a root beer float made with liquid nitrogen and included a syringe?
Nicole, you are stylin' with that pompadour.
After the con wrapped up, the gang hustled to the Broadway Book Mall for a group signing. From L-R, Nalini Singh (who came all the way from New Zealand), Carolyn Crane, Lori Lapekes, Nicole Peeler, and Jeanne.

Meanwhile, I was the guest speaker for the Parker Writers Group, and I thank Kimberlee Gard and Nick Cresanta for their gracious hospitality.

Later that afternoon, we Leaguers rendezvoused at d Bar for their excellent desserts. Carolyn and Jeanne get ready to attack the beignets.

For those of you following the blog, you know that last week I was on a secret mission out of the country. Actually, I was in Panama on a work-for-hire project. You can see photos of the trip on my
Facebook Album.

Wait! There's more!
