Welcome to Biting-Edge, a blog shared by authors and vampire experts, Mario Acevedo and Jeanne Stein. We’ll cover urban fantasy, vampires, pop culture, and all things Joss Whedon. Unlike other fantasy blogs, we don’t insist on body cavity searches (unless you ask politely). Snarkiness is most welcome...though we won't promise not to bite back!

  It was Gold!
Mario here:

Another Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers Colorado Gold conference has come and gone. Like the rest of the US, we looked back at where we were ten years ago during 9/11. Our invited agents and editors were stuck in place as a result of the nation-wide lock down of the airlines. We had discussed canceling the conference but decided that the show must go on. It was understandably a subdued event, but those of us who managed to make the conference bonded for much needed camaraderie and laughs.

Fast-forward ten years~this conference was one of the best ever, a fabulous weekend crammed with workshops and festivities. Congratulations to the contest finalists and winners.

Besides reacquainting with old writing pals and making new friends, there were the wonderful panels as well as the copious consumption of alcohol. (Surprise!)

Two celebrations were the awarding of the much anticipated WOTY pins to our Writers Of The Year. And huzzah to Robin Owens for her second WOTY!

During the awards banquet, I was reading the program and wondering when and if I would ever be worthy of a Jasmine Award. Bestselling author Jasmine Creswell is one the the founders of RMFW and graciously set up the award to honor a member for Exemplary Leadership and Service to RMFW. So I was stunned to learn I was this year's recipient. May I remain worthy.

There was much to learn at the conference, and much to relearn: like people at breakfast are a lot more interesting when you're drinking mimosas.

See you next year!

Congratulations Mario...and all for a great conference!

Congratulations, Mario!

don't tell Mario I said this, but a few of us have been advocating that he win the Jasmine for several years now. Not only has he served in several board positions (including President) but he is a tireless supporter of RMFW. He's my friend, and I'm so proud of him...but again, keep this under your hat. I have to keep him thinking he's a pain in the ass.

Congrats, Mario, on your Jasmine! It's well-deserved. I'm often impressed how supportive you are of other authors.
And, Jeanne, your secret's safe with us! :)

Thanks everyone. I was honored by the Jasmine Award. What made the evening even more special was during the awards banquet when Jeanne fell asleep on the table and drooled all over her cheesecake.

Pst... Don't tell, but Mario is the reason I'm with RMFW. Though I am sure he doesn't remember meeting me 3 years ago (ish) at Tattered Cover when he and a few others presented a RMFW recruiting event. I didn't join then, but the thought lingered until I was ready.
I heard that sentiment echoed a lot this weekend.
Great weekend, great conference, amazing bartender. And I hear he also writes ;)

Jeanne drooling in her cheesecake? Sure it wasn't drooling for her cheesecake?

But on the Jasmine, long past overdue, Mario. Really. Congrats, and don't forget the rest of the award. That 2-year clock starts now.

Don't worry, you're worthy of the Jasmine Award, Mario! In fact, I knew it was going to you as soon as I heard Susan mention the Mtn & Plains Trade Show -- thanks for getting us to that each year!

Hey bartender...
Congrats, Mario. Much deserved.

(Today's captcha: ilductu. Sounds like a South American kidnapping ring.)

Congrats Mario, you deserve it. When you won, everyone at our table said yes! as if it was a given.

Congratulations!

Anything for an excuse for a clebratory drink.

Congratulations on your Jasmine award!

This year was the first Colo. Gold conference I attended, and it was better than I expected. Part of the reason why: all the wonderful people I met, like Jeanne Stein and Mario.

Your workshops were fun and educational. Thank you!

I did not--let me repeat that-- I DID NOT drool on my cheesecake. It wasn't even chocolate for godsakes...Only thing I drool over is chocolate!!!

Thanks everyone for the kind words.
