Welcome to Biting-Edge, a blog shared by authors and vampire experts, Mario Acevedo and Jeanne Stein. We’ll cover urban fantasy, vampires, pop culture, and all things Joss Whedon. Unlike other fantasy blogs, we don’t insist on body cavity searches (unless you ask politely). Snarkiness is most welcome...though we won't promise not to bite back!

Whedon and Life Changing Moment Redux
Mario here:

Yesterday Jeanne, Warren Hammond and I presented at the Author Extravaganza Writers Conference sponsored by the Douglas County Libraries.

Here are Jeanne and Warren trying to decipher their notes on their PowerPoint presentation.

Sadly, we're out of Devil Ducks but Jeanne found these cute Halloween bats for our raffle shwag.
Kim shows off her prize.

JOSS WHEDON news (cause that's how we roll here at BE)!

Check out his interview with Ira Glass of This American Life on 826NYC.  Joss dishes on Firefly what ifs? and Buffy's expanding bustline.

Biting-Edge is darn proud to share this news about our pal, medical thriller writer CJ Lyons.

From Publishers Lunch:

Mystery/Crime

CJ Lyons's fourth medical suspense novel, ISOLATION, in the series featuring the women of Pittsburgh's Angels of Mercy Hospital, again to Shannon Jamieson Vazquez at Berkley, by Barbara Poelle of Irene Goodman Agency.

She's got Jungle Fever (the other kind):

Fellow mystery writer and Agatha finalist Beth Groundwater went to Africa.  For more pics about her adventures, click HERE.

Jaye Wells, she of The Red-Headed Stepchild paranormal series, posted this link to absolutely awesome Steampunk cakes at the Cake Wrecks blog.

Wait, there's more!

Last week I posted my life-changing moment when I had discovered the mid-70s
minor-cult hit Electra Woman.

Then in 2001, Hollywood filmed a pilot for a remake starring Markie Post as a washed-up alcoholic tramp Electra Woman.  This remake inverted the original's classic cheesiness into what could've been landmark demented television on a genius level.  Even AquaMan gets gaffed. What might have been.

Comments:
ElectraWoman! That's awesome.

Yes, overlooked awesome. A forgotten cultural treasure.

How was that event? I thought about attending/speaking but didn't cuz this month is so hectic.

I love that cake!

The Author Extravaganza was very cool. I mean that. The high school felt like a meat locker. But the attendees and authors were very nice. I recommend it.

Awww! Cute bat!

Omigosh, in the steampunk cakes post over at the Cake Wrecks blog, they've got a copper cephalopod cake!! That is just...just...all types of super duper awesome!!!

The whole blogthread is a gas.

To Anonymous,

yes, of course.
