Welcome to Biting-Edge, a blog shared by authors and vampire experts, Mario Acevedo and Jeanne Stein. We’ll cover urban fantasy, vampires, pop culture, and all things Joss Whedon. Unlike other fantasy blogs, we don’t insist on body cavity searches (unless you ask politely). Snarkiness is most welcome...though we won't promise not to bite back!

  Mario Sighting--
Jeanne here--

The good news is Mario has finally been spotted.

The bad news is Mario was spotted crawling back into town in the wee hours of the morning.

I suspect we won't hear from his sorry ass today. That's either good news or bad news.

I'll let you decide.

Comments:
Were there any teeth marks on his neck?

I won't see him until tomorrow night at critique. Hopefully any teeth marks or hickeys will have faded by then.

Hopefully. Course, if he has a hickey, he'll want us to see it because otherwise we'd never believe he got lucky.

J.

At least he's having a good time. Pics of the hickeys, please.....

Go Mario! He's taking a ride on the wild side. ;)

I'll bring a camera tomorrow night just in case!

J.

Are he and his travelmates still speaking to each other?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Are he and his travelmates still speaking to each other?

I'll let you know-- :-)

Hi all,

The four of us remain on speaking terms though I suspect it's due to the pills we found under the bed in our Vegas hotel room. We've put many, many miles in our sardine can of a car.

How many rounds of "One Hundred Bottles of Beer on the Wall' did you all go through? The roadtrip puts a whole new spin on relationships, doesn't it?

Hmm...4 tourees....one Vegas hotel room...and a bottle of special pills...

In other news -- and even more frightening and strange to contemplate -- I'm hearing that on July 7, The SciFi Channel is renaming itself "Syfy". Which I'm told is also a Polish equivalent for "crap", "junk" or "syphilis".

New York, NY - March 16, 2009 - Building upon sixteen years of water cooler programming and soaring ratings growth following its most-watched year ever, SCI FI Channel is evolving into Syfy on air and on-line beginning July 7th, it was announced today by Dave Howe, President, SCI FI.

By changing the name to Syfy, which remains phonetically identical, the new brand broadens perceptions and embraces a wider and more diverse range of imagination-based entertainment including fantasy, paranormal, reality, mystery, action and adventure, as well as science fiction. It also positions the brand for future growth by creating an ownable trademark that can travel easily with consumers across new media and non-linear digital platforms, new international channels and extend into new business ventures.

Syfy????? My only comment is:

HUH?????

J.

Lots of people are saying the same thing....

It's worse -- I don't have time right now to go find it but as part of their statement they all but said this is in part to appeal to a different sort of audience than their traditional one -- the one that is full of mouth-breathing loser nerd guys still living in mom's basement.

Well, I added the words "mouth-breathing" and "loser" to spice up the spirit of what they were saying -- but SYFY did say it wants to distance itself from the nerds in mom's basement.

THIS is the time I break out the F-bomb. Fuck you, Syfy.

I'm going to go buy that book with Warren's latest Juno story in it today and comfort myself with some SF, mouth-breathing loser that I am. Though my mom doesn't have a basement and I haven't lived at home since I was 18. My system can't take this and the fiasco on Wall Street all at the same time.

P.S. -- Oh, and I'm not a guy either.

Oh, and their other justification is that "syfy" will appeal more as a term for teens to text to their friends, in their push to destroy literacy and the ability to spell.

I'm full of F-thoughts today.

What the f*ck?

They want to appeal to a wider audience so they rename themselves "Syfy" which is the equivalent of Syphilis? Someone needs to take their magic wands and Jager Bombs away from them and smack them a hearty slap across the left cheek.

We definitely need to make SciFi Channel more easy to text..cuz that's why I watch it, 48 year old techno-phobe chickie that I yam. sigh.....why 'fix' something that isn't broken?

I think the first board I saw this on was a little confused re the syphilis bit.

I think it's more correctly the Polish equivalent of "dirty" or "junky" = but people are taking the way syfy sounds (I personally think siffy, not scifi) and saying it sounds like syphilis.

It's being called the Syphilis channel on various board where this is being yakked about.

@Vickie: personally I'm feeling more and more like a dinosaur, washed up 40 that I am. I don't even text--how can I live? It seems like with every passing year the only people who count (to TV execs) are teenagers.

What I want to know is who pays the cable bill? Where's my programming?

Great comments all--it really makes sense to change SciFi channel to syfy to make it easier to text, doesn't it? Four letters instead of five--shit. Of course it does.

And Natalie-- I'd say both cheeks would be appropriate.

Vickie, I don't text either. I don't twitter, face book or blog everyday. How washed up is that? I guess the only hope for us is that Joss Whedon continues to turn out smart programming that appeals to all demographics and to showcase stars like Nathan Fillion who get a chance to shine on other things.

We'll continue this topic next Thursday. I promised Mario I'd put up his pics this week, but this is really too good to let go.

J.

Gina: Now when I think of the term syfy...sounds like siffy...I am thinking it sounds close to sounding like stiffy...now I understand....
I had the same trouble when Wii was introduced? I kept calling it Why.
I don't text, I rarely IM. I blog almost every day or at least post comments. I have a Facebook page, but it's not my face on it and I don't get on there unless someone pings me somehow. I will never Twitter, cuz who honestly gives a crap where I am and what I'm doing at any given time unless it's DH and he knows cuz we're practically puh-sychically linked.
